MINDFULNESS GROUPS

Why mindfulness groups?

In order to align our offerings with our community’s current needs, we are currently offering Mindful Mondays – a weekly, short and sweet video session. Read more below!

Do you have a teenager who could benefit from learning effective coping skills aimed at stress reduction? The Mindfulness for Teens group is a great way for adolescents to learn to let go of drama, give themselves a “break,” and learn coping skills that can last a lifetime. There is a growing body of research behind the practice of mindfulness and its effect on reducing stress and anxiety and enhancing coping, quality of life, and attentional capacity. This group is designed for teens in High School. These groups are facilitated by Emily Haygeman, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist. Emily loves the practice of, and has been trained in, mindfulness and yoga. She has conducted research on the effects of mindfulness practice on teen stress and coping.

Mindfulness Group Details:

In this group, teens entering Middle and High School will learn core mindfulness techniques including seated meditation, walking meditation, informal meditation practices, self-compassion exercises and loving kindness practices. This group is based off the model for Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction courses. Coursework is informed by the Learning to Breathe curriculum by Patricia C. Broderick, PhD. Light snacks will be provided each week.

During this uncertain time we have heard from a number of parents who would like their teen to participate in an online offering, but who cannot commit to either the 6-week format or the cost during this time. We are aware that high schoolers are still juggling many expectations, while navigating the move of many of those online. In response to suggestions and current needs, we would like to announce that we are now offering Mindful Mondays for Teens. Starting April 13th, we invite your high-school aged teen(s) to join Dr. Emily Haygeman on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:00pm PT/7:30-8:00pm MT for a 30-minute mindfulness class via video chat. In each weekly session Emily will teach a new mindfulness skill and facilitate a discussion about a topic.

The location for these two groups will be in a private Zoom chat room with a link and password sent each Monday before class.

This offering is donation-based, with a suggested offering of $5-15, with no obligation to donate, especially if cost is a barrier. There is also no obligation to sign up for more than one week at a time.

If you are interested in participating, please email Emily below and she will be in touch!
